Emiya Shirou is the main character in the anime. As a child he gets involved in a battle between two servants. He is the only survivor from his family and the whole neighbourhood. This is a big burden for Emiya.
10 years later he summons his servant, Saber, who defends his life in a crutial moment. During this 10 years Shirou's "father" (a magician who saves him from death) teaches him how to use his hidden magical powers. Shirou falls in love with his servant and makes everything within his powers to save her and win her love.
He is always ready to help. A lot of people think that he is naive and stupid because of his dream to stop the suffering throughout the world and to help everyone. Shirou tries to help everyone, even his servant Saber, and is ready to sacrifice his life for the sake of others. The only magic he posesses is Trace, that allows him to strenghten different objects.
