Most of you have probably dreamed of becoming a ninja, shinigami, samurai or just to have a super powered weapon at one point. Kill La Kill brings a fresh and untypical atmosphere turning it into one of the 2014 winter hits. The powers of the characters in the anime come from their uniforms. Even though the idea isn’t original, Kill La Kill manages to offer a different and interesting vision.
The protagonist of the anime is Matoi Ryuko. She transfers in Honnouji Academy to find out the truth about her father’s death. Matoi has a one of a kind uniform which is made out of life fiber which in turn gives her an advantage against the other uniforms in the school. From the very beginning she manages to make a lot of enemies, including Kiryuin Satsuki which is our main antagonist. Matoi becomes friends with Mako, who is a bit naïve and driven by her primal instincts. Mako’s father is an illegal doctor. They’re poor because they don’t have a good status in Honnouji Academy. The status of the family is decided by the uniform, which the representatives wear in the school. If they have a two- or three-star uniform they live with the elite and have all kinds of privileges.
Matoi finds a few allies which save her in critical moments. She manages to continue her battle because of them. Will Matoi find the truth about her father’s death? Will this seinen have a happy ending? You can find the answers to these questions if you watch this masterpiece of the Japanese art.
Director of the anime is Hiroyuki Imaishi, writer is Kazuki Nakashima (who worked together in Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann – an anime which we want to add in the future). Also studio Trigger debuted with the Kill La Kill anime.
